KAMOA COPPER SA is looking for a Senior Officer, Strata Control

The Kamoa Copper Mine is a joint venture between Ivanhoe Mines (39.6%), Zijin Mining Group (39.6%), Crystal River Global Limited (0.8%) and the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (20%). It's a very large, near-surface, flat-lying, stratiform copper deposit with adjacent prospective exploration areas within the Central African Copperbelt, at approximately 25 kilometres west of the town of Kolwezi and about 270 kilometres west of the provincial capital of Lubumbashi.

To carry out appropriate rock engineering measurement and input relevant data into plans and layouts to combat falls of ground and ensure a safe underground working environment. This is achieved by regular underground visits to monitor compliance to standards and to outline areas with possible strata control problems

You will have the following:

  • Must have a Degree in Geology or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Must hold a Strata Control Certificate.
  • Must have at least 6 years’ experience as a Strata Control Officer.
  • Must have at least 6 years of underground mining experience.
  • Proficiency in business English is mandatory. Working knowledge of French will be considered highly advantageous

Role Skills should include:

  • Geotechnical underground mapping experience
  • Experience in a mining environment as Strata Observer
  • Knowledge and understanding of geological structures for application in strata control observations

Technical Specific Knowledge:

  • Understanding of hard-rock, design of excavations and support systems
  • Ground condition assessment and recommendations, including quality control
  • Use of underground and surface instrumentation to monitor and interpret data to suggest corrective action and enable problem solving
  • Thorough understanding of support systems and standards
