Superintendent I, Air Quality

The Kamoa Copper Mine is a joint venture between Ivanhoe Mines (39.6%), Zijin Mining Group (39.6%), Crystal River Global Limited (0.8%) and the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (20%). It's a very large, near-surface, flat-lying, stratiform copper deposit with adjacent prospective exploration areas within the Central African Copperbelt, at approximately 25 kilometers west of the town of Kolwezi and about 270 kilometers west of the provincial capital of Lubumbashi.

Develop, implement and oversee the site-wide air quality management strategy, including air emissions control and mitigation initiatives, as well as monitoring programs, with particular focus on smelter activities, to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and environmental requirements, including international standards set by our lenders. This role involves designing, budgeting and managing air quality-related projects, providing expert guidance and developing long-term planning forecasts (minimum 2-5 years) to support environmental objectives and ensure cost-effective management of air quality


You will have the following:
• Must have a Degree in Environmental Sciences / engineering or related field
• Master’s degree Environmental Science Management, is an added advantage
• 10 years’ experience in a mining environment, with a minimum of 5 years in a smelter environment.
• Proficiency in English is a must. French is an advantage

Technical Skills should include:
• Air quality modelling software e.g. AEROMOD & CALPUFF
• Air sampling techniques
• Data visualization tools
• Risk assessment tools
• Isometrix
• Budget management, data analysis and researching
• Knowledge of meteorological data
• Computer literate - MS Office

Your Key Performance Activities will include but not limited to:
• Manage and ensure the effective monitoring, control, and reduction of air pollutants associated with site wide operations, with particular focus on smelting activities
• Plan and Project manage company-wide air quality control activities and initiatives 2 – 5 years into the future
• Carbon footprint assessment
• Air Quality reporting and record keeping
• Function as a subject matter expert and drive effective problem solving and continuous improvement
• Build working relationships across teams and functional lines to enhance work delivery, collaboration and innovation
• Manage self and show up as a good team player
• Forecast, secure and manage the environmental (Air Quality) budget as per Delegation of Authority Matrix
